This master class explores how to adapt existing IP for film and television, with a focus on both story and strategy. Participants will learn practical approaches to breaking the story, identifying the core engine of the material, and making smart choices about what to keep, reshape, or leave behind in the adaptation process.
The session will also examine the business side of adaptation, including rights, marketplace considerations, and what makes a piece of IP attractive to buyers. Using recent popular series and films as case studies, the class will explore how adaptation choices can reframe well-known material for a modern audience. The workshop will include an adaptation logline exercise. Several participants will have the opportunity to pitch their take and receive feedback.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Writer, producer, director, Camille Tucker hails from Compton, home of NWA. A Sundance alum and Sony TV Fellow, she has sold scripts to Sony, Disney, Universal, Fox TV, STARZ, Disney+, BET+ and New Line. She is the co-writer of Lifetime’s critically acclaimed biopic The Clark Sisters: The First Ladies of Gospel, which was executive produced by Queen Latifah and nominated for five NAACP Image Awards, including outstanding writing. It also won the Satellite, African American Critics Association and Gracie Allen awards for Best Television Movie and has had over 13 million views.
Camille is a sought-after expert in IP adaptation who teaches adaptation workshops for Netflix in Europe and Africa. She is also a Clinical Assistant Professor of Screenwriting at Loyola Marymount University. Currently, she is writing a new feature for Lifetime and has a number of feature and series projects in development. She is prepping to direct her first feature film in summer of 2026.
